NO SIR! It's time for another hearty helping of sketches, by gum!

This one's out of order, but it's the return of me drawing grotesque stuff. I imagine that this is some terrible Djinn, who torments whoever frees him from his lamp/jar/whatever

cartoony bimbo princess and nasty, nasty looking mouths.

Oh, this is cool. Some French archeologists found this idol of what they believe to be the earth mother from paleolithic times. I drew what the idol basically looked like, but added the tendril arms and the neon green tubing design.

Heard of Jerry Robinson's passing. He created such a wonderful character with the joker that I thought about doing a tribute piece for him. Sadly, my schedule has not allowed me to work on it.

These two are designs for a character I like to call "Owl Girl". she's borrowing heavily off the batgirl archetype, but I'm making her a comic book character in my "Devil on my Shoulder" strips. I think she'll be fun. Trying to imitate Bruce Timm's style a bit with her design.

New singing lady! discovered a russian metal band called "Silvercast" a month ago and have been enjoying they're female vocals very much! (despite the fact that I don't understand Russian whatsoever)

Scary scarred lady. I imagine she's like some evil high-priestess, who's gone through the ultimate sacrifice of her humanity in order to become the perfect servant to her god.

More GROSS Stuff! eh, trying to just draw one thing, then it all spiraled out of control with fangs and monsters and demons and gargoyles and shit. I think it could make a nice watercolor painting...

All right boys and girls, my dinner's burning in the oven, so I should probably douse it and order a pizza.

Howdy kids! It's your old pal Uncle MAK with another juicy sketch upload! ...eh, maybe not juicy. They're from the last quarter of 2011...STILL, time to show you chumps what I've been holding out on!

Yeah, I dunno. I drew these guys after I hadn't sketched in a while. Pretty sure I just wanted to draw something nasty and then draw a caveman. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

This one has a little backstory to it: around the summer of '08, I came up with this awesome name for a Metal Band called "Zombie Priest". As I went digging through old sketchbooks I found the original sketch and thought "Huh, I could make that WAAAAYYY uglier than it is now!" And so I did. The babe at the bottom of the page is an evil nun that'd be the band's groupie. Inspired by the Battle Nuns of Brutal Legend \m/

Random crap, mainly focusing on the "Darkness Inside Us All..." I oughta copyright that and make it a clothing brand. I'm sure the angsty Teens would EAT IT UP

More Adventure Time Sketchy-fan art. Yes, I love the gender bender episode, I covered this already. I think I was planning on doing some fan art and uploading it while gushing my feelings about the episode to the adventure time confessions tumblr. Didn't happen, tho. oh well.

The bottom is a crappy, crappy, CRAPPY environment I tried to make...the top is an AWESOME fanged mouth with vorpal poetry. It cuts you like a cold knife.

More environment tryouts. I think kickass Skull Mountain is where I'll take my next vacation. Lots of open fields with surrounding woods ideal for painting. The local tavern makes their own spirits. And let's not forget the Undead Heavy Metal Band that plays all weekend long!

This is cool. I was trying to make a monster that had the properties of a LAVA LAMP. It's teeth that has no definite form and talks in a horrible tone.

There's me, creating the Voice of Brutality out of nothing. and then some girl sketch, cause you always need to practice drawing pretty girls.

HOLE-EEE-SHIT I meant to update this thing two weeks ago.
In my defense, I got sick after christmas and didn't feel like doing nothing, and last week I was out of town for short excursions to Oklahoma City and Tulsa for family fun.

ANYWAYS, let's get to what y'all are here for: Artwork of what I did for my family this Xmas (if you're not here for that, tough shit. finish reading this post, sucker)

Here's the first one: the wedding Illustration for my brother and sister-in-law, Storm Daley and Kelly Carafiol.

This one is for my mom: I've done an angel for her everytime I've done a holiday Illustration for her. The birds represent her kids (me, Hannah and Ian). I choose sparrows since they're tiny frames make a nice contrast to the elegant and giant swan wings I give the angel.

This one was done for my dad and step-mother, Scott Kephart and Kim Hobbs Kephart. Out on their back patio, enjoying each others company on a summer night with the fireflies dancing around.

This watercolor illustration was commissioned by my uncle and given to my dad for xmas. It's a depiction of my father at his job- debugging crap for NVidia. I was told this is an apt expression of his at certain moments of the day.

I feel like I should write something clever in this space...but meh, It's not coming to me.

I guess writing cover letters to companies have taken all the creative writing outta me. maybe.

Anyway, let's get this train rolling-

Trying out new ideas with this new sketchbook...I remember listening to a LOT of stoner rock. I was also lookin' up Rat Rod Cars and wanted to create an awesome pickup truck whose nitro flames were the colors of rainbows as I sped along some cosmic highway...

the top part is a sketch that'd become my uncle's birthday present from me. the bottom part is uh...shit I dunno, random ass ideas I think. I love the tombow markers, they give me some great colors.

'nother weird and random idea in my head. More stoner rock influence. this time with a reclining blue chick without her shirt on. Kinda groovy, but that's what listenin' to Fu Manchu will do for you when you're doodling...

Just playing around on this page...pretty sure I felt I needed a girl friend at this point...

I hit an epiphany on how to make my compositions more interesting... Have I applied that epiphany yet? no, not really.

These two are sketches for an amped up version of "Feed the Dragon", this time featuring tits and other things that're more exciting than a front shot of a dragon's maw.

First off, I'll just say it- I dropped the ball: I've meant to be updating this blog, but I haven't.
I've got all the sketches and artwork that I want, but I just haven't had the time.

and why haven't I had the time?

Well, the first one is a song every student sings - homework. Lots of things to do in a short amount of time. Finals are a cruel and unforgiving mistress that demands all of your attention, and she will punish you if you take your eyes off her.
So, yeah, I haven't updated because of schoolwork, but that's only been the last two weeks, really, I could've updated before then.

No, wait, I couldn't, because there were other things going on as well.
For those who don't know, I was attending SCAD- the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia (I'll touch up on the was in a minute), and was studying in their sequential art department for the past 4 years (that's 4 years of learning how to do funny books).
And on the weekend before finals, the department had the original creators of MAD Magazine (the ones still alive, obviously) to come down to our school for a gallery showing plus several workshops and lectures on how to do the voodoo that they do.
In order to promote their arrival to the students, the professors held a contest where the students would create a one page Spy vs. Spy comic that would be hung in the gallery with the MAD creators and judged by them, too.
So, I spent a few days working on my comic instead of updating this blog, and wound up getting my page in that gallery along with greats like Sergio Aragones, Al Jaffe and several others.

I didn't win the contest.

But hey, having your work in a gallery exhibit along with the MAD creators is a pretty big deal.
That doesn't mean that I wasn't jealous of my friends for winning, but they deserved it, and I'm over it.

So finals and the MAD creators kept me busy, but there's a lot more, too.
I've been trying to get my resume and cover letters and social networking in order so that I could get my career started.
And little things in life have also slowed me down a little bit.

But the BIG thing that's happened recently is that I've GRADUATED SCAD with my BFA in sequential art.

I am the first person in my family to get through this level of education.
I'd be lying if I didn't say I was proud of myself.

So I graduated, then packed up my life in Savannah, my parents came down to pick me up, and after two days on the road I'm back in their house for the forseeable future.

Of course I'm not going to stay here forever (good lord, no one wants me to stay here forever) but without a car and with no jobs in our area I'm going to focus on working on my art (particularly my comic strips, since people seem to like those), keep fishing for job prospects and hopefully get a career started soon.

Yeah I'm not coming up with a clever title today, I'm just not feeling it.

For those who don't know, I've got my porfolio on the Tumblr now (the-mak-attack). But I mentioned this already. I suppose then I should post a few things that I can't or shouldn't post in the portfolio page- stuff like... sketches!
But since I post sketches up all the time perhaps today I'll upload the rough pencils of all the finished work that's on the Portfolio:

The "Ravenous" pattern that I've been using for background for this blog and the Tumblr... It all starts out in pencil, every mouth and everyspace is measured out, but human error makes it difficult for me to make EVERYTHING exact ALL the time. But, once it was done, I wasn't going to go back and start over, I got other things to do.

This was a doodle on the page where I was making my Business cards, and it got way more work than I intended it too... looks pretty cool, tho.

I did this Illustration called "feed the Dragon" about a year or so ago that had this Alligator based dragon opening it's maw up at you with flame coming outta it's mouth and nostrils spelling out "Feed the Dragon". I thought it was cool, but then I realized that it still needed work... so I eventually have an epiphany to make my illustrations better by adding more crap to 'em...and by crap I mean large chested dames... and skulls...

This is just FUNNY. Don't deny it.

I decided to do something to accompany "The MAK ATTACK"logo that I created, since I hated that stupid dragon that was with it (it looked more like a mutant gopher than anything else)

A WIP- The fake band logo for fake band PIG DEMON. based off a sketch I did last...winter? yeah, last winter for sure. It's on watercolor paper, so once I've finished inking this sucker and adding all the cool detail I'm going to color over the india ink and make this guy look sooooo evil.

Howdy all!

Like the title says, I been putting off updating this blog of mine for a few months.
Why?
Well, aside from working on a portfolio over the summer, taking classes for the final time before I attain my Bachelores degree at SCAD, sketching and life in general, it's mainly a pain in the ass to upload art onto this thing.
That and it's a pain to change the way the blog looks, if you're trying to "customize" it.
Which I am.

So in order to have a place to show off my portfolio pieces I created a Tumblr account at http://the-mak-attack.tumblr.com/
Yeah, someone had my name already without the hyphenates. Bastards.

So what'm I going to do with this place?
Turn it into a sketch-blog. Someplace where I can show off my works in progress, sketches and rant and muse about random things that don't go onto a Portfolio site!

And making the sites look a bit different, too: I decided to change the style of this place so that it wasn't White text on black Background, and not have ALL the lettering be toxic-waste green.

I'm trying to make this place so that people will look at my artwork, not think that I'm some tool outta high school whose trying to be "cool".

Aside from those changes, I'll have to add a button to go back and forth from the portfolio site to this site, cuz having traffic from here to there is important.
Twitter feed is on both sites, cuz... well I happen to like having my twitter feed on here/there.

Expect some sketches in the near future, as well as some musings about comix, artwork, and life in general.

Other things I'm working on- should try for a 4th of July illustration soon, plus working on some watercoloring, and I need to do some fan comics for a portfolio.

It's the FUCKING SUMMER AKA where the FUCK HAVE I BEEN?

Not like anyone out there cares, now.
But school's been out for me for 3 weeks now, Completing my penultimate quarter at the Savannah College of Art&Design with B's across the board for final grades. I feel pretty good about that.
Afterwards it's been 2 weeks of me visiting family and friends- Grandparents visited savannah after I packed up and shipped my shit to my parent's house for some touring.
There was ice cream and lots of fish eaten that weekend.
And then the weekend at my parent's house where we caught up, ate breakfast... and fuck me I forgot what else we did.
Wednesday I went back to Dallas to crash on my bro's couch for a week and a half. When not couch hogging I hung out with old high school chums and visited A-KON for the first time in my life (photos of that will be posted up later).
We celebrated our last get-together for a long time to come by getting margarita's at a local mexican joint, and screamed and shouted in victory as the Maverick's kicked Florida's ASS in the finals.
Then I spent time with my Mom, Step-Dad and lil' siblings, watching the Hangover Part 2, eating burgers at Lee Harvey's, and being shocked at the fact that my little brother is up to my elbow now.
Craziness.
That's pretty much it as to why I haven't updated this thing lately, I've honestly just been busy with shit and haven't had time to cart my MAKbook around to tell y'all about it.
As of Today I started going to a gym with my step-mom, there's a men's section that's got some boxing equipment, so I'll be able to do something that I wanted to do BADLY last summer but never got around to, I'm really excited about the new Twisted Metal game coming out in October and really want the new Mortal Kombat game out already.
This summer'll be focused on creating an awesome portfolio, filled with illustrations and comix so that I can wow and dazzle and make potential employers BEG to hire me for projects and the like.
I have been sketching, and will be posting art up again starting tomorrow.

HO-LEE SHIT this is a fun instrumental! A lot of people think of stuff from Racer X when talking about good instrumental songs, but this song is just awesome.
It's got a great slow opening, then just amps up the noise. It's got a great feel to it, sorta slow 'n powerful like a dinosaur that's shambling right at you while you're wearing Conan the Cimmerian attire.
Fuck, I'd put this on a mix tape and have it as the opening track while speeding down the highway.

Sketch Dump! 5/20

I guess Today I'm going to upload the last of the water color sketching before skool hit me about 6 months ago. I Dabble in watercoloring, I'm not a master by any means, but I do have fun with it...

The paper I use in my sketchbooks aren't made for watercoloring. They won't tear but they ripple up pretty nice. They make a cool ruffle sound when you flip through the pages, like flipping through some old tome of forgotten lore describing the ancient many-angled elder gods and their rule over primal earth.

This guy isn't a watercolor sketch! GET OUT!

Here's an Idea I had for a song title: "Toxic Lightning". It's about lightning that gives you cancer. Or kills you with lightning. Both suck...

Stupid idea I had after reading some comix by Rob Zombie (the Adventures of El SuperBeasto collection). It's a vegas call girl who's a zombie. I guess I just wanted to draw something cartoony with tits.

Sketch Dump! 5/18-Daemon Faeries

It starts out with a dream... or rather, an exclamation- "I'm FUCKIN' TIRED of doing Homwerk! I just wanna Draw big-tittied Daemon Faeries!" And lo and behold I did.

Here's the First sketch I did that would start me down the path of doodling naked, obscene, voluptuous fairy-demon goils. It's kind of old hat, what with the big tits and the pentagram, but hey, Sex sells, and an old hat is a comfy hat.
or whatever...

Here's a clean version of the sketch above. The pentagram choker removed in lieu of a studded collar. Same dame, tho. I was planning on selling this broad at a mini-comix expo that my school was hosting as a temp tattoo.

And so I colored her and pimped her out for a buck a piece. But hey, she didn't sell too well (mainly cuz the patrons were cheap-o students who wouldn't shill out any of their college loan money to support their future overlord). Ah well, such is life. I plan on doing more than just the flats on this dame in the future, but possibly redo-ing her so I can make her hair look better. That and mebbe go back to her cotton-candy hair.

HO-LEE SHIT I haven't uploaded any sketches in a while! For you newbies who don't understand this whole process, lemme lay it all done for you: I'm an artist! I draw Many things! When I get the chance, I use tecknologikal magicks to put their essence into a glowy SLAVE-MACHINE I call a MAK BOOK and then share with you through the astral plane that everyone calls the internet!

A little more, but not too much, I just like the rhyme that I came up with for the huge-tit queen daemon faerie queen.

Inking sketches. They look GREAT but I prefer not to spend too much time on a page. ...okay, that's a lie, I just don't have the time to ink over everything I do. Plus, I like how penciled sketches look.

That's all for this update, Don't worry, I haven't uploaded anything from my sketchbook in like... 4 Months! believe me, there'll be plenty of material for me to update with in the next month or so! And I'll try to keep the sketches a'comin' people.

MAKATTACKBLOGSPOT OVERHAUL!!!

'SUP chumps? As you've noticed, the mak attack is going through a major change. All the old artwork has gone away to the archive site (themakattackarchives.blogspot.com) so that this blog can be viewed as everything from 2011-onward with better, more professional quality.

... although I'm still going to cuss a whole lot like on the other blog.

Other things are coming here, too. I should be ranting, musing and other actions that appear as deep thinking when they're really not (or maybe they are, I dunno). I'll talk comics, I'll talk Heavy Metal, and I'll post my usual mess of sketches, scribbles and more finished artwork in the near future.

Oh, and my twitter feed will be on here, too. Just so I can offend everyone that I need to.
